"PR Newswire was a critical tool in helping my client maintain revenues. Faced with declining revenues, I needed to get them out of the box. While they weren’t ready to abandon their print and direct mail efforts, I helped them bolster their web and media presence. The PR Newswire effort definitely helped, especially enhancing our search engine optimization and pay-per-click efforts. When we saw the release distributed through dozens, if not hundreds, of sites on the web, we also saw our pay-per-click ads placed near the release. End result was increased traffic and a bump in their revenues."

In a digital world, it can be worth the effort to add video to your press releases

By Chris Sturk, Managing Editor, Mequoda

Video content is extremely popular in today’s online environment.

According to Search Engine Watch, 182 million U.S. Internet users watched nearly 40 billion online videos in September 2011. That is over 85% of the Internet users in the U.S.

It’s clear that online video is a hit with an array of audiences and age groups. How much video content are you utilizing? Does it make sense for you to focus on creating online video content? These are questions that many publishers and content marketers struggle with; even though it may not be as difficult of an undertaking than previously thought.

For instance, there are numerous digital video cameras that shoot in high definition and cost only a few hundred dollars. There are even high-quality attachments that can help turn an iPhone 4 into sufficient video recording device. The Owle Bubo is one such device, which offers a stabilizer mount and video lens.

If you decide to take the step into creating, distributing and marketing online video content, don’t forget to use press release distribution to spread the word of your video content.

How to Use Video in Your Press Release

  • Online press release distribution services like PR Newswire allow the creator to incorporate video content directly in the press release.
  • In other instances, an image of a video camera could be inserted into the press release with a possible caption of “watch video now”. The image could then be linked to your website housing the video, or your YouTube channel. This would help promote your video content while generating more website traffic for your brand.
  • Adding the word “Video” into the title of your press release may be intriguing enough to audience members that they will look further into your press release.

If video content is on your to-do list for 2012, make sure you have an executable strategy before diving in. Utilizing online press release distribution will be a valuable tool in spreading your video content.
